Yesterday, the social media world was abuzz about the new Instagram app, Hyperlapse.
Why is this app getting so much attention?
Well, approximately a year ago Instagram added videos to their app, allowing users to share video clips of 15 seconds or less. Since then, people have been using Instagram video to gain more followers.
Hyperlapse will allow those same users to improve the quality of their videos by making them appear as if they were shot from a steady platform.
The app accomplishes this video improvement by speeding up the file.
According to TechCrunch, users have the ability to switch from 1x the speed of the original video, to 12 x the speed.
Why is this app such a big deal?
Anyone who has worked on videos knows that the technology involved in improving the stabilization and overall quality of a video is too intensive to accomplish in a mobile setting(TechCrunch). However, Instagram configured the app to use smart phone’s built in gyroscopes to calculate, and correct for, the movement of the phone (TechCrunch).
What does this mean for you?
If you have an Instagram account, and you are a realtor, you can now capture more beauty of a home in the 15 second time slot. This will give your followers even more reason to give you a call to tour the home.

Recently, our team was lucky enough to visit Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park, California for an event they called Facebook Fit.
Facebook Fit was designed to bring small business owners together to learn about the Facebook tools that can help businesses drive traffic and grow their online presence.
We walked away with lots of good information. Today, I want to share with you what we learned about Facebook Story Packs.
Facebook Story Packs allow you to organize your social media content into 4 main categories:
1) News, Goal: Drive Sales & Traffic
Facebook suggests that you post about your Promotions. If your company has a sale or discount promotion, be sure to tell your clients. Additionally, share with your followers the Logistics of your business, news that affects your business, or changes in hours and location. Lastly, if you are going to participate in an event, or your business will be having a holiday special, you should absolutely share this with your followers.
2) Things, Goal: Drive Sales & Traffic
Facebook suggests telling your followers about what makes your business unique, tell the story of your products and services, and most importantly, let your audience know what need your product or services fills.
3) People, Goal: Build Your Brand
Facebook suggests highlighting your employees, your loyal customers, and share recommendations from customers or employees. Show your followers that you listen.
4) Places, Goal: Build Your Brand
Facebook suggests telling your followers the backstory of your space, why you set up shop where you did. Share the atmosphere around you, what types of businesses are near you? What makes your neighborhood unique compared to other places in the United States, or the World?
What types of posts attract you as a consumer?
With all the recent headlines pertaining to drone usage (Hobby/Commercial), it is important that the regulation question gets answered sooner rather than later. Businesses, like ours, are already using drones to enhance or build upon their services. Real Estate, commercials, S&R teams, farmers, etc… have been showing that there is a legitimate business need for commercial drone use. However, like most government regulations, there is a fear that the rules will be too strict with little to no common sense in their application.
We at AireVue use drones to help our clients market their businesses. Visual marketing is our specialty and nothing adds that “wow” factor to a video more than using aerial footage. I have talked to other business owners who are using drones and we all agree that there should be some regulation/rules to commercial drone use. Safety & privacy are the primary reasons why we think there should be some sort of licensing path to commercial drone use.
Licensing will help separate legitimate business use from those who are frankly just messing around. If a person has to invest time and money in being legally licensed they are more likely to approach what we do as a professional. What we don’t want is people spying on people or flying dangerously low or close to buildings/people. These are legitimate concerns and they must be addressed. Nothing would be worse for our craft than rogue pilots giving us a black eye.
I hope common sense will prevail with the FAA as they write new regs. Not taking a “one size fits all” approach will allow for acceptable usage for both professionals and hobbyists.

This morning I attended a webinar put on by Katie Lance who is a social media expert for the Real Estate industry, and she made a very interesting point during her webinar.
One of her favorite social media lead generation and referral techniques is to Intentionally Surprise some of her contacts. Meaning, she reaches out to a referral or potential client with a personal message or a small social media gift card. Her actions surprise her contacts and leave a positive impression.
She challenged everyone on the call to intentionally surprise at least 1 client a month. If you have never before used the apps that allow you to easily send gifts to other people through social media, that may be a great way to start!
Twitter has @Tweetacoffee which allows you to send a Starbucks gift card to your Twitter connections. The best part about using Twitter is that all of their followers will see that you sent a coffee, and they may Tweet about that positive experience!
Facebook.com/gifts allows you to send a gift to another Facebook user. These could serve as great thank you gifts to referrals, a relationship refresher to your past clients, or a conversation starter with potential clients and referrals. My Social Media Marketing Network suggests that you take advantage of the privacy option whenever possible.
